Update from the FCCLA National Conference

opryland 150x115 Update from the FCCLA National ConferenceThe gals who are working the LZE booth at the FCCLA conference in Nashville are having a blast! They featured the 5 Minute Activities today and received great feedback.

Susan Turgeson’s food science presentation this morning went wonderfully. She offered attendees two additional lessons that aren’t included in her Successful Food Science Lesson Plans. You can download and use them in your classroom: Lab Rubric and Sensory Evaluation.

So far the gals haven’t gotten lost at the huge Gaylord Opryland Hotel & Convention Center – the location of the conference – but the conference has only just begun! Yee-ha!

We are Playing with Food

Yesterday we had a lot of fun turning the kitchen here at LZE into a food photography studio.

One of our food stylists, Pegi – who worked on the Foodscapes Collection – was joined by one of our graphic designers, Dorrie (who also worked on Foodscapes), Mike the photographer, and the nutritionist here on staff, Linnea, to create and photograph 12 characters for a new poster called Great Applications.

They succeeded in bringing several sports characters to life using healthy food! It was fun to see some of the tools (pins, paint brushes, tweezers, a grill starter – to name a few) and tricks Pegi uses to make foods look delicious. Some scenes they created:

A ballerina made of strawberries, kale, and sugar snap peas
A basketball scene made with pretzels and a bun
A wrestling match with cherry tomatoes and a soft pretzel

Check out some action shots of the shoot below and watch for the debut of the poster coming soon!
